It's good to remember you still have options. Remember you got out early and reasonably unscathed. That nine out of ten people were sorry to hear the news but one person was elated and spinning the machinations of his twisted mind. That you didn't say anything disrespectful about last-night's break-up because that would break your heart more than the broken relationship but the intimation was there about future plans, groundwork.

If there's nothing else to remind my students tonight in our last class, it's that a good story must progress. There must be forward momentum. Life is nothing more than a good story drawn out over multiple acts. Progression. Forward momentum. Decisions that spin you in new directions. Options.
