Point/counterpoint. I know I've ranted about the Dismemberment Plan (see below) and my lack of understanding where their fans are concerned. i.e. Why do people like this band? On Friday night, I was part of an exhuberantly appreciative audience at the Spoon show. It occured to me that there might also be non-Spoon fans in the crowd, folks who gazed upon the audience with a look of confusion, wondering why we love these two minute ditties that end right at the moment they should bridge to another (perhaps half-octave higher) verse. I had the wherewithall to phone two friends who couldn't make the show during the encore (Jonathan Fisk). Sure enough, at brunch yesterday, I ran into a friend who had been at the Spoon show. He'd never heard of the band before, and spent his time on the dancefloor in awe of the adoration.
Sign of the passing zeitgeist:
two months ago, another concert (My Morning Jacket) at the same venue, the number of trucker hats reached the high 20s.
friday night, one sole hipster sported the meshtop.
Far and above. The highlight of the weekend was the super cuties lesbian marriage proposal at the Dufferin Karaoke bar on Saturday night, followed by a serenade of the love theme from Titanic. No, wait, the highlight of the weekend was the midnight screening of Zombie. I came for the shark fight, I left with the memories.
